Jesse Lee renovation!

Just look at us now!

Opening presents is exciting and fun. What’s inside?  It is the same with spiritual gifts. We may not even know what they are until we unwrap them. Take this simple test to find out what YOUR spiritual gifts are. You could be surprised! You may be able to help the church in ways you didn’t expect---and also gain a little valuable self-knowledge.

Are you missing our fellowship?

Announcing for August – the Moveable Church. “Have faith, will travel” is our motto. We remember how Jesus fed more than five thousand on a distant hill. We remember how people gathered by the river to pray. Jesus’ ministry was performed beyond buildings at various outdoor places. Church can happen anywhere and everywhere! Beginning this August, in addition to our Sunday zoom worship, we will gather for outdoor, in-person events. These events might include (prepackaged) communion at Jesse Lee Church, bring-your-own picnic lunch on someone’s lawn, or a celebration of summer at the Readfield town beach. They will be either afternoon or evening events. The expectation is that we will maintain social distancing by wearing masks and bringing our own chairs, blankets, water, and sun umbrellas.

Our first Moveable Church gathering will be on Sunday evening, August 9th, at 7:00 pm on the lawn at Jesse Lee Meeting House. Since this is an after-dinner event, bring your own cookies!

If you have any ideas or suggestions for other outdoor locations, including your own backyard, please contact Worship Team leader, Claire.

Hope to see you on the 9th!

Torsey Church at Night

Jesse Lee Meeting House
The Methodist Church in Readfield,
the oldest Methodist church in Maine,
is showing its years
(excerpt from George Smith's article in the Kennebec Journal 2/19/2020)

Historic church has seen better days
The Meeting House needs new siding and we are hoping you can donate to this very important project, which will cost $38,000. The Readfield Methodist Church is responsible for the Meeting House, which was built between 1793 and 1795. And its dedication on June 21, 1795, drew as many as 2,000 people.
The church was originally up on the hill and was moved 500 feet to its present location by 50 teams of oxen. Regular worship services were held here until 1961 when five local congregations combined into one church currently known as the Readfield United Methodist Church in Kents Hill. But the Jesse Lee Meeting House is still the host of Easter sunrise and Christmas Eve services, plus Sunday evening services in the summer and weddings, funerals, and other special events. Many of the services here involve lots of singing, which is very special. The church, partly because it is so historic, is so peaceful and holy, I could sit there for hours.
Our church members are pleased and proud to care for and maintain this very special church.

Where is the Church? Here, There, and Everywhere (1 Corinthians 1:2)

We are going to use Zoom for our every Sunday morning service until we regather in the sanctuary. We are also  planning to "take" the church to outdoors for occasional afternoon/evening gatherings. By the lake, on the lawn, or in your backyard - anywhere can be our sanctuary because we believe the church can happen anywhere and everywhere. Where do you want the church to take place? Any suggestions for location? Please let Myung know.
