in-person worship has been discontinued until further notice.
Due to increasing numbers of Covid cases in Maine, the leadership of the church made a decision to suspend our indoor worship until further notice. As our Bishop mentioned in his letter last week, keeping our neighbors safe is how we practice Christian love. On Sundays, please join us via zoom or phone for our our worship service. I am grateful for your flexibility. See you soon!
It’s been 225 years since the Jesse Lee Meeting House was dedicated on June 21, 1795. As of November 1, 2020, we will have a little over 225 days (232 to be exact) until year 226. Why not celebrate the remaining time of this 225th year anniversary, by making a commitment, a commitment to perform 225 acts of kindness? -- Just one act of kindness a day until June 21, 2021, and perhaps, we will have so much fun, the acts will just keep on going. For ideas see some ideas of acts of kindness b do an online search for “random acts of kindness.” Are you ready to go? Let’s have some fun. Share love. Start a ripple.
Thank you for your support for our Christmas wreath. So far, more than fifty wreaths have been picked up! You can still pick them on on the following dates. Preorder through the church office will help us a lot.

Starting next Sunday, December 6th, we will begin our new worship series, Chesed. Chesed is a Hebrew word that is used for Kindness, which is found some 250 times in the Hebrew Bible alone. This familiar phrase from Psalm, “For His lovingkindness (chesed) endures forever” tells Chesed is the nature of God. Another familiar phrase "And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, (chesed) and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)" tells kindness is what God desires from us. RUMC's Community Engagement Team's focus in 2021 is Kindness, one of the values the world is the most needed in these challenging times. We are going to dig into the theme deeper to understand God's kindness toward human beings and to reflect on how to mirror God's kindness in our lives. All are invited to worship!

Jesse Lee Meeting House the oldest Methodist church in Maine
(excerpt from George Smith's article in the Kennebec Journal 2/19/2020)
The Readfield Methodist Church is responsible for the Meeting House, which was built between 1793 and 1795. And its dedication on June 21, 1795, drew as many as 2,000 people.
The church was originally up on the hill and was moved 500 feet to its present location by 50 teams of oxen. Regular worship services were held here until 1961 when five local congregations combined into one church currently known as the Readfield United Methodist Church in Kents Hill. But the Jesse Lee Meeting House is still the host of Easter sunrise and Christmas Eve services, plus Sunday evening services in the summer and weddings, funerals, and other special events. Many of the services here involve lots of singing, which is very special. The church, partly because it is so historic, is so peaceful and holy, I could sit there for hours.
Our church members are pleased and proud to care for and maintain this very special church.

Opening presents is exciting and fun. What’s inside? It is the same with spiritual gifts. We may not even know what they are until we unwrap them. Take this simple test to find out what YOUR spiritual gifts are. You could be surprised! You may be able to help the church in ways you didn’t expect---and also gain a little valuable self-knowledge.
